During Heart Week, a number of our Dubbo Heart Support branch members attended the Base Hospital and assisted Cardiac Rehab staff by manning an Information desk at the Hospital entrance. The enthusiastic Rehab staff carried out free blood pressure checks, ran multiple morning teas and hosted two guest speakers (a Heart Specialist & NSW Ambulance Paramedic ) who ran a Q&A session.
All week a competition was staged called “The Six Minute Challenge” to see who could walk the furthest in 6 minutes. This challenge was popular with people from all of the hospital staff. The relevant areas of the building were brightly decorated with red hearts and red balloons. A Mothers Day raffle rounded off an enjoyable week for all concerned. Our executive will meet with Rehab staff in the coming week to discuss ideas to make next year’s “Heart Week” a bigger and better spectacle. 11/5/2017
Metro North Health Board at Caboolture Hospital has introduced a Caring Program aimed at caring for the elderly while in hospital and during follow-ups. Cecil and Gilbert, of the Caboolture HS-A branch, were approached for an interview to share their thoughts on the subject, and from this a letter was compiled and sent to medical persons. This letter was read out at a conference chaired by Dr Ian Sturgess, an authority on the topic from England.
The outcome of all of this was the Board wanted to design posters to display in their hospitals and asked both Cecil and Gilbert if they would be the models. Here they are on the poster!
